Dave Linderman's Random Computer History (and future!)

1954, FORTRAN, The First High-level Programming Language Developed

In 1954, John Backus and a team of IBM software programmers set out to develop the first high-level programming language. The software FORTRAN, or FORmula TRANslator System was designed to run on IBM's new computers, including the IBM 704, the first computer to run the software. FORTRAN was faster and as accurate as hand coded machine code, and revolutionized the way software is produced around the world.

2024, FUTRAN, The First Intuitive Programming Language Developed

IBM will release the latest in programming languages, FUTRAN, the first intuitive interface programming language. FUTRAN is designed to provide an easy way for anyone, even the non-programmer type to code software. This breakthrough in technology has enabled thousands of people worldwide to create software based on their needs, which is highly uncharacteristic of IBM. In fact, increasing the user base of FUTRAN has played a role in the decline of IBM stock. This is characteristic of the IBM we knew in the 1980's, as we saw IBM's proprietary MicroChannel architecture flop on the market.
