Gail Hawisher

The Computer Rhetoric Program was founded at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in 1984. At that time, the Department of English received an IBM EXCEL Grant that allowed it to establish two networked classrooms with $119,000. These two computer classrooms formed the basis of online teaching for years to come.
