| Electronic Ink - 1997 |
 |
Wednesday, 06 February 2002 @ 07:15 PM EST Contributed by: dd |
Electronic Ink is first developed at MIT Media Lab. E INK, Corp was formed in 1997 to promote and diffuse this new technology.
According to their web site, Electronic Ink is not new science, but rather a careful fusion of physics, chemistry and electronics. The ink consists of tiny microcapusles with charged particles that make it one color or another.
This ink can be placed on any type of surface, including the long favored paper medium.

In the year 2010 it is reported that old-ink text books are coming to an end, as E-INK corporated has contracted out with major e-publishing companies to create their text books in an electronic file format.
The file can be transfered to a blank E-notebook and transform an empty book into a novel, math book, text book or anything.
Newspapers are no longer delivered, but dynamically downloaded onto E-papers. E-papers can be customized to any desired size, and the problems with folding up old-ink papers are gone.
Thanks to this revolution in Ink, literacy has exploded since physical content is as cheap to produce now as digital content. Also, due to the reusability of electronic paper, the consumption of the wood for paper products has greatly been reduced.
The result is a greener more enlightened populace.[ Reply to This ] |
