Press Release (AP):
World leaders and language specialists
finalized the details on the Terran language today. Inspired by the ideals
of science fiction writers of the twentieth century, the dream of one language
uniting the entire planet has finally been realized.
Work on this project began during the second half of the twenty-first century. International projects involving such ambitious goals as space travel and colonization ran into constant obstacles in the area of understanding the languages of fellow collaborators. And so the Terran Project was born.
Researches dug back to the days of the Phoenician Alphabet, established around 1000 B.C., to seek an old foundation for this new language. Based on the symbols established then, along with their accompanying pronunciations, the roots of a new languaged were formed. This approach pleased both Western and Eastern academics, as Western modern languages were based on the Greek adaptation of the Phoenician Alphabet and Eastern modern languages were based on the Aramic adaptation of the Phoenician Alphabet.
Linguistic specialists from around the world met to translate their own languages into the new format. The First Terran Dictionary was signed by the core team of linguistics at the press conference today. (Webster's attempt to sponsor the dictionary was shot down, based on the fear that such sponsorship would single out the importance of the English Language).
Instruction in the Terran language will commence immediately, with textbooks being translated in the upcoming year.
The Council for the Establishment
of Terran would like to emphasize that they have no intention of eradicating
any of the native languages that bring such cultural richness to this planet.
This language will simply be a tool by which international collaboration
will be more easily accomplished.
