Details for Joining the Class
The course will meet:
Mondays from 9 AM to 10:20 AM in LIS 131, and
Wednesdays from 9 AM to 10:20 AM in LIS 52
The class has a maximum size of twenty-five (25).
Course Expectations
The course will involve considerable hands-on work in designing, testing,
and improving prototype user interfaces. Students will be assigned to work
in interdisciplinary design teams; you must be willing to work in such
teams.
Design activities may include: interactive web sites, e-commerce applications,
computer-based learning environments, information search engines, PDA and ubiquitous computing applications, and novel computer interfaces for advanced technologies.
Prerequisites

Students must be of Junior or Senior standing.

Students must be able to create a simple set of web pages (basic text and
links).

Preference will be given to students registered for the Information Studies
minor.

It is not necessary for students to have a background in computer systems
design (although the expectation is that roughly half the class will have such a background).

Students from many different backgrounds (including graphic design, education,
psychology, and business) are encouraged to apply.

Students must be willing to work in multidisciplinary design teams. In particular we will be exploring the challenges of doing successful design where there is a wide range of experience in the team of computer systems design.
