The Design of Usable Information Interfaces

This course will examine issues of Human Computer Interaction and the design of better computer interfaces. We will examine the interfaces to a number of different information systems as a way of understanding the challenges and trade-offs of good design. This will include but not be limited to the design of usable websites.

We will attempt to answer questions such as:

• Why are computers so hard to use?
• What causes the confusion that many people have?
• How can we understand more about the difficulties?
• How can we design computer interfaces that are easier to learn and use?
